Who are we?
DSIDQ is the peak body for people with intellectual disability in Queensland.
Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland (DSIDQ)
People with an intellectual disability have the same human rights as everyone else.
This is supported by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. People with intellectual disability deserve quality education, health care that meets their needs,  fulfilling work, genuine friendships, a place to call home, and active involvement in their community.
Our Mission
Our mission at Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland is to support, advocate for, and empower people with intellectual disabilities to reach their goals and be included in their community.
Formerly known as Down Syndrome Queensland (DSQ), we officially launched our new name, Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland (DSIDQ), on 1 July 2025. This change represents a reaffirmation of who we are and what we stand for as Queensland’s peak body for people with intellectual disability since 2022. Our new name strengthens our visibility, clarity, and commitment to the communities we represent.
Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability Queensland aim to be the preferred point of contact for people with Intellectual Disability, their families, carries and the wider community. We provide support, expert advice and quality services to help people to fulfil their potential. Find out more about our other services and supports by visiting the DSIDQ website.
DSIDQ Education Team
Our DSIDQ Education Team provides support to educators in schools and kindergartens to ensure learners with intellectual disability are maximising their educational outcomes in the most inclusive learning environment possible.
We are a statewide service, supporting educators all over Queensland through in-person and online consultations, in-person and online professional development workshops and networking meetings, and collaborative planning support sessions.
Our DSIDQ Education Team provides support to schools through the Specialist Disability Support Service (SDSS) and the Non-State Special Needs Organisations (NSSNO) programs, and to kindergartens through the Kindy Inclusion Service (KIS) program. These programs are all proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Department of Education. Through these services, we can support learners in government-approved kindergarten programs, primary schools, secondary schools, and special schools. We work across the three education sectors with State, Catholic, and Independent schools.
